Sometimes couples have a severe sperm and egg factor. If they have been unsuccessful with self-gametes or wishing to go for a donor sperm or egg due to medical reasons, it can be done with embryo donation, or embryo adoption (also termed as a misnomer). It is a procedure where a healthy anonymous donor’s eggs get fertilized with anonymous donor sperm via a sperm bank. One or two of resultant embryo get placed in the woman’s womb at an opportune time that leads to a high pregnancy rate. The couple must need to understand about the procedure that the resultant offspring will not be a genetic child but a biological child. It is a pre-requisite that the couples go through counselling are mentally ready to perform such types of treatment.
Another option is egg donation that is a process where the egg of a healthy young woman (the egg donor) gets fertilized with the sperms from the patient’s husband and the resulting embryos get transferred into the patient’s uterus.
